This are the things I really really really really want:

Electronics:

  • A cheap, decent, functional lab powersupply, like the PS3005 from Elfa
  • A set of really good fine-tipped tweezers something like this.
  • Soldering tin. This stuff is expensive in big rolls. 0.8 mm is good for general use, 0.5 mm or thinner is really good to have for finer work. 82-905-00 (.2mm), 82-905-10 (.5mm) and 82-905-30 (.8mm) at Elfa

Books and comics

Other things

More boring, yet wanted stuff

  • Rosendahl Grand Cru dinnerplates, 27 cm
  • Rosendahl Grand Cru deep plates, 19 cm
  • Rosendahl Grand Cru mugs, 34 cl
  • Rosendahl Grand Cru assorted wine-glasses, flutes, tumblers and 50cl beer-glasses.

Back in the 3d saddle

I’m finally back at 3d-modelling, currently working on the ship Serenity from Firefly. Of course, due to copyrights and whatnots, this is the “Stormbringer“, loosely based on a sketch someone made from a tv-show…yeah, that’s it. The tutorial is from 3D-Palace, same guys who made the tutorial for the APU (the Matrix-mech) which I sadly never finished. I am however a big fan of the Firefly series, and I am very much enjoying modelling the wonderful ship Serenity. Here’s my status so far:

More to come…lots more…

There but for the grace of God II: TNG

Whenever something happens to someone you love, it makes you think. It makes you consider life. It makes you seriously consider the phrase “that’ll never happen to me”. My dad is in the process of building/rebuilding his house, and the seemingly everlasting project is coming to an end. He’s done an amazing job and the house is almost finished. Yesterday he was finishing the stairwell so they could come and put in the staircase today. But lo and behold, the ladder slipped and he fell down 2.5 meters, landing on the ladder, on his back. He was rushed to the ER in an ambulance but despite laws of nature, he seems to have come from it unscathed, except for a scratch on a finger. Oh, yes, and a very bruised and beat up back, yet no neck-injury, no fractures, no slipped disks or whatever else you expect to happen when you fall like that. Thank the forces of good (and evil) that it (so far) went well.

It made me think though, of how many times I’ve done subconcious risk-calculations and not really considered the consequences of cutting corners, not moving it slightly that way, not loading up a little less, not going twice but save time and go once, etc because nothing bad ever happens to me…

They say safety starts at home…it can abruptly end there too. You should keep that in mind next time you skip checking if the fuse is off…

I did…

Congratulations and salutations go out to Anders Hovden and Gisle Martens Meyer for actually surviving the rush and making it to 30! Both great friends and both great achievers!

Kudos to Anders for not only having the patience and confidence of bringing Mina into this world (yes, with a little help from his wife, certainly.. :-)) but also being a great dad.

Also kudos to Gisle for living his dream and being an amazing artist with Ugress. Moby, step away from the keyboard, there’s a new kid in town! :-)

Hello world!

A way overdue CONGRATULATIONS to my sister for giving birth to her daughter Malin Friday the 14th of January, 2005 (they have supposedly settled on the name, but I’ll leave it open for discussion) . We went to visit them on Saturday and they were both exhausted. Malin didn’t even once open her eyes while we were there, but here’s a few pictures at least. :-)

Her 6 year old son Markus was VERY proud of his new sibling. More pictures to come!

First 3D-post

Here’s my first post about 3D-modelling. I’ve just started a brilliant tutorial from 3D-Palace. Basically, it’s the big robots they use in Matrix 3. So far, I’ve built the right, lower leg. :-) Here is a pic:

Starting to look like something advanced. :-) It’s all done by polygon-modelling, boxes, extrusions, moving vertices etc. I can definitely recommend this DVD set!
